In 2016 a group of women from the Focolare Movement started to save money to give themselves small loans. They called themselves UNO after the Italian word for ‘one’.
Their experience has been very positive and every year other groups have been added. AECOM supports them with training and supervision by a microfinance expert. And today they are 9 groups with 259 members.
Soon this initiative will be expanded into a primary savings and credit cooperative, COOPEC UNO, to support young start-ups.
