MAY DAY – CHILDREN’S DAY!

AECOM – Goma branch, together with 130 young people and adults from the Focolare Movement, organised a children’s day in the refugee camp .

The venue for the event was the football stadium next to the IDP camp in Mugunga, around the corner from the Focolare Centre. The children were targeted by AECOM staff the day before, and with an entry token they could take part.

The aim was to give them a moment of joy and peace, and to help them de-traumatise. To achieve this, CAPACITAR exercises were carried out, as well as games and dance.

With the support of AMU Italy, each child received nutritious biscuits equivalent to a large meal and a juice. They went home happy, and their parents thanked them for giving the children hope.

The experience had a special blessing from God, because despite the rainy session, the sun was there.

Two days after the activity, a war bomb felt close to the stadium in the middle of the IDP camp. It also shows the precarious circumstances in which children live together with their relatives in the camps.
